Job description

A Junior Editor at Sokal loves editing and the world of video. From social media to new developments in AI, a Jr. Editor at Sokal keeps up with the trends but also has a strong baseline for video editing fundamentals like pacing, transitions, audio, color, and typesetting. A Sokal JE is ready to learn from the team from scripting and filming to motion graphics and sound design. They are a team player for the agency and the Studio with an eye for putting things in motion and making it look good! In a world of 10 to 30 second margins a JE is ready to make the most of that space.

Job requirements

Editing

  • Works to deliver timely edits with minimal revisions needed 

  • Knows their way around Adobe Premiere and After Affects  

  • Collaborates with team, sharing knowledge and offering encouragement 

Filming

  • Camera experience is preferred but not required 

  • Working towards a solid understanding of filming, audio, and lighting  

  • Able to capture BTS content on Sokal production shoots 

 

AI in Video 

  • Work within Sokal’s best practices generating and editing videos 

  • Understands prompting and workflow with AI video platforms 

  • Has experience in with editing workflows on AI video platforms 

Creative

  • Contributes to ideation and creative conception of video production 

  • Growing eye for fonts, color, trends, and style 

  • Shows strong understanding of Sokal brand guidelines 

  • Attends production & creative teams meetings 

Productivity 

  • Works efficiently and manages time well 

  • Self-starter and seeks guidance from the team when needed

Basic Qualifications

  • Well versed in creating and editing videos in Adobe Premiere (or similar program)

  • Portfolio preferred but not required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equal years of experience to demonstrate the necessary competencies required for the position 

  • Preferred knowledge & understanding of industry-standard editing software including Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Ability and willingness to learn new software platforms as the industry evolves

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 

  • Proficient with Google Suite 

  • Strong proofreading and editing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and think critically

  • Dedicated team player

 

Working Conditions

Editors are seated for 6-8 hours per day unless on production shoots, performing constant motions such as typing and using other computer equipment. Certain situations may require bending, squatting, or lifting objects including videography equipment that do not exceed more than 75lbs.

Travel

Travel is involved in this position for behind the scenes coverage. Typically, no more than a full day of travel is needed. Travel may be by car or plane depending on the distance.
